For private equity

Screen it, read the room, size the structure

Sourcing, diligence and structuring for teams without a dedicated research function. The document workspace is the centre of it, because in private markets the constraint is almost always reading rather than data.

What does private equity research software need to do?

Three jobs that are usually done in three different places. Find candidates, which is a screening problem on whatever is publicly filed. Understand a specific target, which is a document problem across a data room of mixed quality. And test whether the structure works, which is a modelling problem. The wins come from these sharing a workspace, because otherwise every finding is retyped twice.

What it does

The specifics

01

Target screening on filed data

Public comparables and listed candidates filtered on real financial characteristics, which is also how a private target gets benchmarked.

02

Data room question and answer

Ask across every document at once and get the file, page and passage back. Scanned material is read with a document-native model rather than a general one, because a reformatted table is the failure you cannot afford.

03

Financial statements out of a document

Statements in a portable document or an untagged report parsed into the same concepts as filed data, with the units declaration read explicitly. A statement headed in thousands and parsed as units understates revenue by a factor of a thousand, and everything downstream inherits it silently.

04

Leveraged buyout modelling

Debt schedule, sources and uses, and sponsor returns, refusing inputs that cannot be modelled instead of returning a number from them.

05

Red flags with evidence

Findings reported with the text that produced them, so the investment committee can judge the finding rather than the tool.

06

Committee materials

The memo and the pack built from the same findings and models, exported rather than rebuilt.

In sequence

How the work actually goes

  1. 01

    Source

Screen listed comparables and filers to frame the space and to benchmark a private target against something real.

  2. 02

    Read

Load the room. Work the standard question list, then the ones this asset raises. Every answer carries its page.

  3. 03

    Structure

Model the capital structure and the returns, with the inputs that could not be established flagged rather than assumed.

  4. 04

    Present

The committee pack, assembled from what you actually found.

Straight answer

Private company data is thin, and pretending otherwise helps nobody

There is no private company database here. Public filings, in the UK through Companies House, are a much thinner disclosure regime than a US annual report, and no software changes that. What this does is make the material you are given, which is the data room, far faster to work through and much easier to evidence.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I use it for private company diligence?

Yes, and it is the intended use of the document workspace. What it will not do is supply private company financials from a database, because there is no licensable free source of those. It works on the material you have been given.

How does it handle a data room of mixed quality?

Scanned pages go through optical character recognition with a document-native model. Spreadsheets and word processing files are parsed. Statements embedded in a report are extracted into the same concepts as filed data, with the units declaration read explicitly and a warning raised when none is found rather than a scale assumed.

Is anything sent to a model automatically?

Extraction from documents is deterministic parsing, not a model call, wherever the output is a number. Where a model is used, uploaded text is treated as untrusted input: fenced from the instructions, scanned for attempts to steer the answer, and the output screened before it reaches you.

Can a team share a workspace?

Team sharing is part of the Premium tier alongside the diligence workspace and the banking tools.
